more Shipping Out
I just caught a commercial for something-football (the American rugby thing but w/ pads ... as to not be confused with the other football) using Shipping Out To Boston narrated by Morgan Freeman. I can't say his narration met with the typical bravado of (US)football, but all otherwise I love the man's narration and acting. Glad for the DKMs to have something else to their professional accomplishment pedigree.

I guess we'll have to wait and see the credits, assuming the tune is used -- I have noticed that some signature music gets reused from one film to the next and/or music will get used in a trailer/pre-view (sometimes from another film) that isn't used in the film itself -- I noted this w/ the music from StarGate, don't recall tho what the other film was that used the StarGate music (I want to say it had Nicole Kidman in it, but who knows).
just look at the music from the movie Backdraft! its been used for countless movie trailers.....and is the theme music for Iron Chef to boot!

Movies/TV/Commercials
With my different recording ventures one of my aims is to try and get my music in movies, TV and commercials -- frankly, just because I think it would add to the fun. I have a music marketing DVD that teaches how to go after this pretty well from what I can tell.

On the Pirate Radio trailer. The Dropkick Murphys are looking into the movie studio's use of what appears to be an altered version of I'm Shipping Up To Boston. The management of DKM has had it brought to their attention by the fans. Investigation is now underway as the DKM's have not licensed it's use.

Cooool. Er, something. Is that on their website, or do you know them, or did it make the Boston Paper, etc?
(I have 2 DKM shirts on hold for me at a local store, I should pick them up tomorrow.)

Good to hear about that SteveB -- myself being a fan of the band & loving my 2 shirts.
Not that I doubt you, but what is your information source -- I'd like to read about it myself. Do you have any links?

I am a big fan of the Dropkick Murphys. I am on their e-mail notification lists, and am a friend of one of the team. On reading the post here about the music, I listened to it and notified DKM's manager via email of the presence of the trailer. I received a reply that, they were looking into it as I and several other fans had advised them of it.
I also live in Boston, their hometown. Ken and Scruffy are actively involved in a local pub that I occasionally frequent (awesome Shepherd's Pie, BTW). This trailer was brought up in conversation with them as well. McGreevey's on Boylston St in the Back Bay, if you are ever in the area.

It looks like the trailer in question has been replaced/re-edited. No more "Shipping up to Boston." That the trailer was part of the "official" site of the movie (a for profit venture) and the DKM's didn't contract for the use of their tune means someone had some 'splaining to do.
