Actually, these photos were taken in Glasgow when the movie opened in the UK

Indeed.
None-the-less, Hollywood celebrities are known for "doing their own thing" in any manner of dress so I don't see any point getting in a tizzy about it.

The kilt does look a little long. Based on where I can see the buckle on the right, I think he just has it sitting low on his hips. As for the whole top ensemble, I think it's a typical look for a movie star. At least he's doing it Scottish. Just like English/American fashion styles will change and come back around, you have to be willing to let Scottish fashion do the same. I applaud Gerard Butler for supporting the kilt, even if he isn't a traditionalist.

Well, since this is a kilt forum, I think discussing and having opinions about how someone is wearing a kilt is pretty valid, even if you consider it "getting in a tizzy."

Cool.
"Butler, who was born in Glasgow, admits he is delighted to play the part of his country's national figure."
Galician, he is wearing flashes; they're black.

No "foaming at the mouth" or "tizzy" here, simply a comment that I don't see that combo as being very fashionable, irrespective of the kilt. Truth be told, I'm really not that fashionable of a guy. Like many here, I grew up during a time where the basics of dressing were learned by most, but it's a much more casual world today. Living in a rural area now I rarely wear a tie or suit, even as a professional, however some pieces of attire certainly seem to work better together than others.
sanddog28's comment indicates he sees a better way to do this. Clearly Butler wasn't trying to achieve a proper formal wear appearance and I understand that. If throwing in a piece of casual wear with otherwise formal attire is what he was trying to achieve, than he hit it spot on. Heck, he probably paid more for that shirt than I did for my hand-sewn 8 yard kilt! However, my limited fashion sense tells me that an Argyll jacket (or any of its variants or a Wallace, etc.) would have looked much better. I'll leave it to others to recommend shirt colors.
At the bottom line, Gerard Butler could care less what I think and it really doesn't matter to me what he chooses to wear. He's a good actor and I enjoy his films and talk show appearances.
Just an opinion. YMMV. Oh BTW, I lost my kilt police badge ages ago. ith:

He doesn't care about what I think either. How sad is that?
