Paying for my kilt in instalments

Ever since I came to kilt wearing, I've been an admirer of the beautiful double box pleat kilts made by Lady Chrystel of France. I've always been tempted to get one but with the state of the Pound against the Euro recently, it's a big ask to fire that much out of my bank all at once.

I was surfing ebay a few days ago and came across an 8 yard length of 15oz kilt fabric in Lindsay Modern, woven by Peter MacArthur of Scotland, now defunct and began to put two and two together. I have Downies in the tree so a Lindsay Kilt (Downie is a sept of Lindsay) would be just great.

I contacted Robert (Chrystel's husband and business partner) and asked if it would be possible to order a kilt from them if I supplied the material and pay for it on the drip. They happily agreed and so I've now committed to pay 50 Euros per month by paypal for four months with work starting on the kilt once the balance is settled. (my suggestion regarding the work not theirs but I'm a cash up front kind of Bloke and although I trust them, I don't expect them to trust me) I offered to keep it all hush-hush assuming that this wasn't the way they normally do business but Robert was quite happy for me to tell all that this is a perfectly acceptable option. It is easily affordable this way although it must be said, the wait will probably kill me.

I bagged the fabric tonight and will get it shipped to them in the next month and as an added bonus I'll be in France for an unrelated reason next April so will probably be able to collect the kilt from them in person and visit them in their idillic home in the French Alps to boot.

    Gorgeous!!

Stand by for photo's in a few months. Thanks Robert and Chrystel, I can't wait!

I have a similar arrangement with Keltoi on a custom weave kilt 50% upfront (to order the material) and 50% when my turn comes up in queue. Perhaps it's an unfortunate economic state that causes us to deal in this way but it does make a big ticket aquisition a little less painful.

Wow it's good our kiltmakers help promote their quality work.. by making it easy for those of us, who live on shoe string budgets, to be able to afford
    their works of art..

It's good to see you benefitting from a positive arrangement with our lovely kiltmaker.

It makes sense that our friends on XMTS would accommodate (or enable) us in such a professional way. I think you have lit the path for many other future purchases. I am quite confident that others have a 50% down, remaining amount at time of delivery, but monthly installments is a grand idea.
