As you said; at least they are kilted. Just that I failed to find any connection between music they are playing and kilts.

But why are they wearing kilts? They are an Austrian folk group, why then are they not dressed in Austrian national dress?

    Nice - but I don't get it.

    Regards

The video has a woman dressed in a dirndl interviewing a man in a kilt. I love it! Opa!

Thanks for the link. Liked the music. They all seem to wear the kilt well and it appears from the pictures that they are loved by the ladies. Well done!

From the website's photoalbum, they just played at an event held for rural youth in NW Austria, a region best known for it's ski slopes. 90% of the young men there were dressed in traditional menswear, but a couple of them were in kilts.

I assume that they were inspired by the band, so good for them!

They are wearing the Styrian tartan.

I saw a program while traveling in Germany a few months ago about a kiltmaker in Austria. Thomas Rettl from Villach, Carinthia, Austria, claims the kilt originated in Austria based on some discovered remnants of tartan. He has designed the Styrian and Carinthian tartans to promote his claim.

I used to live in Graz and wouldn't mind a kilt in this particular tartan (just because) but I think Herr Rettl is the only source for it at the moment though it is milled in Scotland.

It is worth remembering that this region had a Celtic population dating back to pre-Roman times.

    My thoughts exactly!

I just love their music, although I do not understand a word they sing, and could listen to it all evening. Also, I think the combination of the kilt and their National Costume works so well - not for everyday wear, but great for a smart evening out.

    Take care,
    Ham.
