Unless the Otago & Southland Regiment is still around.

Without researching, i believe the the Otago and Southland (home province for me) regiment is a battalion of reserves now (TFs), with some historical alignment to a Scottish Regiment...
The regiment become a TF battalion of the Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment in 1964 during the reorganisation of the army. This was until the later reorganisation of 1999, which saw the TF battalions split from the RNZIR to become multi-function battalion groups.
In all honesity, I am surprised that either Australia or New Zealand still associate themselves with overseas regiments...
Still time marches on, and as the generations pass, little by little they no longer look to the past for who they are, but to the future of their own dominions, and creating their own traditions, and with that, they strip away connections with heritage and cultures, a little sad really...

Still, its a shame to see traditions reduced to nothing due to fiscal constraints.

It is sad, as Canada and South Africa still maintain a number of regiments with affiliations to the regiments of the British army and the Scottish regiments in particular.

without hi jacking this thread,
I believe it was more around a sense of our (aus and nz identity), and attempting to distance ourselves from mother Britain, and of course practicality.
Still, if anyone would be able to carry on with these expensive traditions it would be the aussies

I did wonder about those very two points, myself.

Thanks for that BD, ground pounder units aren't exactly in my scope of operations...
Otago and Southland - I was referred to as "good Southern breeding stock" by a recruiter...
still bemuses me to this day...

Here's the Drum Major of the Tanaka Regiment (if I recall correctly) who performed at the Edinburgh Tattoo.
