    Happy Winter Solstice!

    Happy winter solstice, folks!

Looking at my evergreen tree with its lights on reminds me of the return of the sun. 'Tis the reason for the Yuletide season!

    Have a wonderful time.

Yes, here in the northern hemisphere, its wonderful to be past the shortest day and with extending daylight hours to look forward to.

In Minnesota we un-officially celebrate this as the first day of Spring since the days start getting longer. Light snow and 20F right now. Perfect Spring day!

Yes - it occured at 0947 in my neck of the woods - PST. First across my threshold was my son, bearing the Christmas ornaments which we were late getting out of storage. Couldn't think of a better way to celebrate the mid point for winter.

As a longstanding sufferer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD, aka the winter blues) I can tell you that within a day or two of winter solstice I can tell the days are starting to get longer, regardless of the fact that winter solstice coincides closely with the onset of the winter season. Funny how one's body is able to tell things like that. Within a week or two the blues begin melting away, despite snow on the ground, etc... for a couple more months before it actually becomes hospitable outside again.

And a happy solstice to all of you! A magical night, and a time to remember that the sun will return, even on the darkest of days.

I hope everyone enjoyed the day, and will enjoy the longer days ahead.

I'm disappointed to report that I spent the solstice night in a drug induced stupor (Nyquil), due to a nasty cold!

Feeling a bit better now. I agree that despite it being a subtle change, I can feel when the days begin to lengthen (as can all the cats that are now going into heat! )

    Be well,
