Your wife is to be congratulated, it looks quite nice. I think that epaulettes with matching harp buttons would balance out the three buttons on the pocket flaps.

    Cheers

Thanks for the great comments. My wife, well, this will go to her head. Good! Now I can definitely keep her supplied in thrift-store jackets.

No, the jacket does not have side vents. Should it???

As for my tie in that pic, it's not that loud when out of the sun. It matches, much better, my kilt when subtle lighting is available.

Side vents are more traditional than the single vent found on many American sport suit coats. It's not absolutely necessary, but it's a nice added touch.

Looks like it did not have a vent at all, which probably works fine!

About the side vents, when I lost 50 pounds I took my Argyll jacket to a tailor to have some of it lopped off. She said the vents would have to go; I said fine; and you know what? It actually makes for a cleaner look when I'm playing the pipes, because before the sides of the jacket where the vents are would always stick out oddly.

Nice jacket and you wear it well. Your wife did an excellent job. It looks like enough of the jacket bottom was cut away to remove the back vent.
