Auld Lang Syne
We're 20 minutes out from 2010 here in the Midwest, and so I thought I'd share a wee video of the original version of Auld Lang Syne. Whilst it is not the tune we know today, it is still beautiful in its own way.
I was introduced to it many years ago by my guid friend & "drouthy cronie" Alex Sutherland (might light perpetual shine upon him) -- this one is for you, Alex:

Now to pour my wee dram of The Macallan and wait for the New Year.
Lang may yer lum reek -- wi' other folks coal!

Thankyou for posting that link to auld lang syne.
We sing that on the beach at Sidmouth, Devon in England, at the end of the torchlight procession and before the fireworks, at the end of the week long folk festival where I meet people I usually do not see for another 51 weeks.
It is dear to my heart.

Happy New Year !!!
It was a stonking party, well wicked !! All our neighbours came, work-friends, Filipino friends and their friends and lots of new people we didn’t know yet but kept appearing through the party ! We started about 9 when the first folk came and it was pretty calm and sedate then, with lots of chatting and my wife opened the innings with our dreaded karaoke box ! Then more folk arrived and more and more (it was like a scene from “Tommy” – “There’s more at the door, there’s more at the door, there’s more at the door – there’s more !” ). By 11.30 the place was rocking and at midnight, a hooter (air-horn) sounded the magic hour and next I knew, I was leading “Auld Lang Syne”. and big party poppers were being popped ! My singing didn't scare anyone off so that’s when the par-tay really took off with continuous R n' B, hip-hop and pop music and dancing !! Well later, some left and yet others arrived and so on. We went to bed when the last group of folk left. My wife tells me that was nearly 6am. Wow – it didn’t feel like it ! It seemed to just flash by.
I was so happy that everything went well – the food we’d spent days making and freezing and making even till 8pm on Hogmanay, mainly all got eaten and any remaining was taken away by Filipinos when they left, our 9 (x 24-550ml) can boxes of beer got drunk except 2 cans, umpteen bottles of tequila, vodka etc, were finished, malt whisky and bourbon were hit and various other bottles too. Photos were taken. What I liked most was the mix of folk – Scots (well – me), English, Welsh, Americans, Filipinos, Turkish, Omanis, Egyptians, Lebanese, Jordanians, Palestinian-Americans etc etc, all having a good time, dancing to the beat and being totally relaxed. We’re so happy it went so well – that’s what New Year is all about – old friends, new friends !
