But really who cares? It's Walmart, not Milan.
I think that statement pretty much exemplifies the reason that people today dress so much more casually (and let's face it: sloppily) than they used to. It used to be that the average person would put on clean, presentable clothes and attempt to look decent in public before leaving the house. That was what society expected.

At some point, people started going more casual in their dress. Then they got more casual in their grooming. Some of it may have been the rebellion of the '60s (it was downright shocking that women were going bra-less!). Whatever caused it, or however we got here, here we are. It's no longer surprising to see people wearing pajamas to the store, women with curlers in their hair, and similar manners of dress that used to be considered embarrassing. Personally, I think it's a sad trend. Heck, I can hardly get some of my employees to put on a shirt with a collar before coming to the office!

As long as everybody keeps the "who cares, it's Walmart" attitude, that attitude will gradually spread to everywhere. I wish we could go back to an attitude of, "hey, I'm going out in public; maybe I should make myself presentable". This doesn't mean dressing to the nines, but I think basic grooming and appropriate clothing go a long way.

But that's just me. If I can help it, I'd always rather be over-dressed than under-dressed. I'm not trying to be critical of anyone or rude, so I hope my comments aren't taken that way. There is wisdom in those old ZZ Top song lyrics, "every girl's crazy about a sharp dressed man."
