Can you wear a sgian dubh in Boston?

I will be traveling to Boston and wanted to make sure I wouldn't get myself in trouble by wearing a sgian dubh. Being from Arizona where almost anything goes I just wanted to find out about the rules in Boston.

    Yep, you sure can.

...you may get taken up the river, though.

    NOT LEGAL.

...unless it's very small (less than 2 1/2 inches of blade).

For anyone who ever wonders about this question...

You can always type in <insert state> weapons laws on google. You can easily find pdf files for your state's weapons laws. Cities with more stringent laws within that state will always have their specific laws recorded within that same document.

I know that Massachusetts is one of the states where shipping of certain bladed weapons is restricted.

Thanks for the input. After researching the laws, and the maximum limit of blade length being 2.5 inches, I have decided to forgo taking my sgian dubh with me.

If ever I am not able to wear my skean dhu or sgian dhu to a given location/event, I travel with an imitation or cosmetic skean dhu.

Thanks for the recommendation I will have to purchase one. That would be perfect for traveling, while not having to worry about local laws.

Question: I'm assuming that if one were flying whilst kilted, even a fake sgian dubh would need to be placed in checked baggage and not carried on the person. Is this correct?

This is true, if for nothing else then to avoid any incidents...even if something like a sgian brew or similar were used. I always check my dubhs when flying.

Under present law, even attempting to carry a knife onto a commercial aircraft in the US is a felony, with very steep penalties. I would not even attempt to carry anything that was all plastic onto a plane now. It would be unwise.
