I will make one last comment- the Stillwater standards are NOT PV, they are acrylic. If you have any pets at all... or walk around a yard with trees or bushes... or have forks in your house... the acrylic will snag on these things and you'll have strings hanging off of it. It also pills like crazy. Acrylic is also very flamable- so you smoke, there is the distinct potential to set yourself on fire. I own 2 and will never buy one again- willingly. The PV from USA Kilts is very durable by comparison. My USA Kilt that I have had for 2 years has stood up to the rigors of day to day wear almost as well as any of my wool, while the acrylic ones look like crap after a year and a half.

OK
Thanks to all of you that have joined in to help me make this big decision with a little budget. I truly mean that. I have read, re read and read again all that you wise kilter have typed.
I have gathered the following.
1. Buy the best kilt you can afford.
2. Wool is best...followed by PV ...followed by acrylic.
Here has what I have found and have been mulling over and over...and over...
Acrylic - $85 OTD in Saffron @ SWK
Wool - $137 OTD in Saffron @ SWK
PV - $140 OTD in Irish Heritage or Weathered Yellow(not enough like saffron)
The Scotland Kilt Co
Package includes 8rd 10oz PV Kilt w/flash, sporran, hose, belt w/buckle, ghillie shirt and sgian dubh.
heritageofscotland.com
I can put together similar items w/o the shirt.
My questions are....
Is a machine made Pakistani wool kilt that much better than a PV?
Fit? Feel? Look? Swing? Length of life? ect.....anything I forgot?
Does the acrylic really pill and pull that bad compared to PV?
How is the acrylic for Fit? Feel? Look? Swing? Length of life? ect.....
What are you experiences with Heritage of Scotland and the Scotland Kilt Co?
This is going to be my 1st kilt and I wanted to have accessories to wear to. For roughly the same $$ as the wool I can get a lot with the PV, all be it basic entry level extras. I know Jerry @ SWK is GREAT to deal with. But the way to get saffron is to forgo the accessories or buy an acrylic. I could use existing socks, and put my leatherman (it's black) in the right one and not get a belt or buckle. I guess at this point I am just rambling and looking for experienced kilter advice. I just don't want to regret it later. I promise I wont hold any of you responsible. But I will shower you with thanks after the fact.

Seanachie - How funny, I was looking at those hose topper last night. My kids are into knitting with hoops, they will be all over this. That will sure help add to my accessories. I think it is a nice look. May not be traditional Highland, but that's OK I'm Irish.
DetroitPete - I'm dying to know what my decisions are too!

I can definitely sympathize with a tight budget and desire to be kilted as soon as possible!
The "PV" kilts from the Scotland Kilt Co are actually 65% viscose rayon, 35% acetate fibre. The material is quite thick and stiff... I don't own one but have handled one and the construction is decent. Apparently they soften up over time. Don't forget that you are likely to get hit with import and sales tax on their package! With today's exchange rate, their package is $143 USD. Shipping free but let's imagine 20% tax... that's $171.6 USD. In Canada, I got hit with 18% duty + 15% sales tax when I imported from them!
My recommendation from your shortlist is the SWK saffron heavyweight. I have one in solid green and think it's pretty great. The wool is softer and lighter than my other wool kilts but it still hangs and swishes well. It kept me plenty warm on a two hour Christmas day walk when the temperature was 4 degrees Celcius. Warmth will be a major consideration for you on St. Pat's, and wool beats PV or acrylic hands down.
You can make your own package from SWK for about the same price as the one you mentioned from the Scotland Kilt Co: heavyweight saffron (comes with flashes), plain black sporran, basic kilt hose, sgian dubh, military safety pin. Total $160.60 USD + shipping.
Happy kilting!

Thanks for the heads up on the additional cost from buying overseas. I never thought about import fees. Anyone else have these costs added when ordering from them?

If you buy from a US shop, then of course you save in the shipping. If you find yourself having to place a 'rush' order however, it will most likely cost you a bit more.
