    Staffordshire Hoard Book Published

    Last July, as some of you are no doubt already aware, the largest horde of Anglo-Saxon gold artifacts ever found was discovered in Staffordshire by a fellow with a metal detector.

    Well, the book has now been published, so those of us with an interest can see what all the fuss is about!

    Very tempted. . . I also found it for sale from the British Museum, and they wanted slightly less total to get it to me in San Diego!

    I've always wondered how much of this stuff is really turned in and how much is just privately sold to some collector.

    Apparently, in the UK, there's a law which lays out severe penalties for not selling archaeological materials to the crown. I kind of wish we had such a law here in the states.

    The farmer whose land it was found on, and the guy with the metal detector are splitting a seven-figure income between the two of them. I'd be satisfied with that. ith:

    Wow! I wonder where this was in Staffordshire. I went to school there and have family from that region. Do you have any more information?
