I was in Perth last week.. it's about a 40 minute drive from my house. It's a lovely little spot. There's a great used bookstore on Gore St. I picked up a copy of "Weir's Way" by Tom Weir (the companion book to the TV program) last spring.
I might have to talk some friends into going this summer to the event.
Thanks for the heads up,
Sara

Perth's World Record Kilt Run - One Thousand Plus!
Well, thanks to everyone for posting, and kind words. We want the event to be a success. The race route had to be changed due to the numbers ... but I like the new version. It now includes a section running on the oldest golf course in Canada (some say North America - Perth Golf Course). Als0 more

Perth is indeed one of Eastern Canada's, no Canada's, best preserved historic villages. Its huge Scottish heritage is reflected in the name of just about everything local, but for some reason it was a favoured gathering place for the classier sort of Englishman that came to Upper Canada in the 1800s. Perth sits at the head of its own little canal, the Tay, which is in turn connected to the Rideau Canal, a World Heritage Site. If coming from the South, and not pressed for time, I recommend a trip up (or later down) The Old Perth Road, which passes through an even smaller village, Westport, and connects to Kingston ON across the Canadian Shield and some of its lakes (in Perth, the route is of course better known as the Old Kingston Road). The Village of Perth itself is quite lovely and fun to visit, esp now that they have promoted the world's most viciously attentive meter maid to other duties.
