Bob was selling off a mixture of worsted tartan remnants he had, and tweed. I actually did list all the tartan cloth that he was selling here on X Marks in the For Sale section and a lot of it went pretty quick. I still have some, though, which I suppose I need to repost.

As for the Harris Tweed, what I have is shown listed here:
    http://kilts.albanach.org/harris_tweeds.html

The cloth is listed there to have kilts made, but if anyone is interested in purchasing just the cloth for a DIY project, just email or PM me. I can also have jackets made in the cloth, as well.

So I'm not sure where Bob got it from, but he's had it a while I imagine. It's single width, stamped with the orb mark. Not sure of the weight; it's not as heavy as some Harris Tweeds I have worked with, but heavier than others. It will certainly make a warm skirt for you to wear in the Utah winters!
Hum. I think the only piece of true handwoven Harris Tweed that Bob had was a 4 yard length woven by the late Marion Campbell of Plockrapol, Harris. I was with him when he bought it from her in 83 but it's not that piece as he gave it to me a while back. Most, if not all his other stuff, was stamped with the Orb mark but that's not actually truly hand woven as a hand weaver would understand it. The older stuff was woven on a Hattersley, more recent material is woven on the wider looms. To re-emphasis the point, neither is a hand loom although the Harris Tweed Association have for years claimed cloth woven on a Hattersley was.

    Matt,

I was referring to the Organic Tweeds here: http://kilts.albanach.org/organic_tweeds.html I see now that it's through Albanach, and I was looking on the museum website! My mistake, sorry! Seriously jonesing for the Island tartan -it's *awfully* close to MacLeod 1278.

I do plan on adding the Ardalanish tweeds to the museum's gift shop line soon -- mostly in jackets, but also in kilts. For the now, though, I just have them listed on my own site.

We won't be selling this fabric by the yard (not at first anyway), but just in tailored goods. If you want it by the yard you are advised to order it direct from the mill. We wouldn't be able to get you any better price than their standard retail.

Ali, sorry to hear that you are going through the jonesing that the rest of us seem to on a somewhat regular basis. The good news is that the jonesing will soon pass after the package arrives, the bad news is that a new jones seems to come along pretty quickly. Can't wait to see the pictures, I love the Harris Tweeds.

    Peter,

For us non-weavers, can you go into more detail about why the Harris Tweed Association would consider cloth woven on a Hattersley loom "hand woven" while a true hand weaver would not?

I second that motion--I'm very confused
