It is interesting the reactions one gets when wearing a kilt. One of our friends just adopted a little girl and she has seen me on a number of occasions picking up my sons from after school care. Tonight, while wearing pants, she picked me out of a couple hundred people and told her new mother that I was "the teacher who wears skirts". I am not a teacher, but I just laughed at the innocence of a six-year old. I seem to get the most negative comments from teenage boys. I figure at least they have seen someone wearing a kilt and therefore it will be less foreign the next time they see someone the next time.

I'm amazed that anyone would think of a "college town" as being open minded, simply because by definition a college town must contain college students, and that means "high school, but without parents, administrators or curfews".

...And all the BS that comes from high school and lasts until...oh, I dunno, about until they all have to sack up and take some responsibility for themselves.

So, yeah, I would expect more "tolerance" from a bunch of briers (who generally are well-mannered) than a bunch of kids between the ages of 18-22.

But aren't you being a bit closed-minded towards college towns (and students, for that matter) yourself?

THe first time ever wore thekilt out I wasin a medium sized city. I went into a store and an older guy standing there looked at me and said, "You're the first man I've seen wearing a kilt today." any apprehension I might have had simply vanished.
