I have seen Gretzky spelled with an ess instead of a zed. As I understand, zed is the British pronunciation of the letter "z".

True, but Wayne's name is with the zed.

    Awesome ceremony!

Those tartan things were hardly kilts, but the fiddle music was great.

I used kilt like in the most general sense. But some of the women were wearing kilts as were a few of the male dancers who did not make it on tv.

Kilts or no, it was cool! And it led to a good evening:

I watched the opening ceremonies with some friends. At one point, prior to the arrival of the tartan, I wandered off during a bit of interpretive dance...to...practice my bagpipes. Really.

I came back upstairs to comments like "that was really cool!", and then the tartan showed up in the opening ceremonies...somebody asked "why is that guy sort of wearing a kilt?" and another comment about how they were stealing Samoan art that had nothing to do with Canada . It was a good evening, I got to explain the images ( as well as the tartan )...and found out a bunch of the guys and girls had various Scottish connections.

End result was, I'm supposed to wear my kilt next time.
