I work at Ft. Detrick and it didn't open all week. Also, US 340 running southwest of Frederick was closed for a long time as they plowed through 20 foot drifts.

No snow on my island, but on the " Big Island" of Hawaii, there is snow and you can ski and snowboard on Mauna Loa & Mauna Kea above the 13,000 marks-last time I did ski on Mauna Kea was in 1996. I do not miss the cold & snow at all!

Half way up Vancouver's Grouse Mountain, where I am at the moment, there is no snow and it's a balmy 10C at 17:45. We have house guests, though, who heli-skied the glacier just north of us in good powder this morning. At my other home south of Inverness, we have a good layer of white on the ground and are expecting sleet and freezing temperatures tonight.

At my house in the foothills of the southern Appalachians we got 4" worth of powder yesterday evening and night, and most of it has melted today. In some shady places there was still snow from December. All the old folks around here say they've never seen a winter like this, and a lot of the young folks have enjoyed being out of school. Many school districts, including mine, have instituted Saturday school to make up for some of the days missed.

None here yet in the Sultanate of Oman.
Believe it or not, it does snow on the hills in the interior to the South sometimes.

My company had a rush job that had to be finished and sent to Japan. We finished and crated the equipment friday afternoon. We called for a pickup, and due to the State Snow emergency plan still being in effect, we could not get a trucking company to come and get it.. So, my boss comes and asks if I would drive it to Baltimore Washington International and deliver it to a freight forwarder. Dumb old me says yes. After I clean the snow off of the truck, back it in to the dock, He comes to me with this strange look on his face. "It's not going to BWI. BWI is closed due to the Maryland State Snow Emergency. It's got to go the Sterling, Va, Home of Dulles Airport". I said sure, who cares. Can I get someone to ride along to keep me awake. Keep in mind that I started work at 0500 and it is now 1600 hrs.. Mapquest says it is 1.5 hours to the location from our shop. Let's go. Fuel tank is empty. Must fill. We get to Virginia via Md routes 340 and 15. Drop the crates at the forwarder. Hopped into the truck for the return trip. Ended my official work day at 2130. that is a total of 16 hours minus lunch. Route 340 was not bad. Narrower than I am used to, but passable. The Virginia roads were much worse.
Now how is iot that trucks can't come into the state, but trucks can leave and return. Hmmmmmmm.........Was that a legal trip? Who knows. The crates are sitting in the warehouse until Monday when the plane leaves for Japan.
Even with all the snow we got, I helped our company fulfill a promise to a customer. Production: We get it done.
Now to explain the giraffe joke. When something gets deep, as in snow, it's a** h*** deep to a 10 foot giraffe.
That's deep.
Those of you with snow, enjoy it.
Those of you without snow, you lucky ba*****ds!!!!
Snowed in , yet working during a state snow emergency,
Frank
