Today I break out the kilt for 2010!
Today we are in full rehearsal mode for our big winter multi-arts performance. As sound engineer and video designer, I have a crew of more than 30 students who are talented and prepared to rock!
Today I will bust out the UK workman (or any kilt for that matter) for the first time since putting them away for the winter.
Thanks to the 10% Challenge, my kilts not only fit, but are somewhat loose.
For almost all of these kids, this will be the first time they have ever seen a man in a kilt. I will share the interesting responses I get from American teenagers.

The first person to see me said, "In God's name, why are you wearing a kilt?" But before I even had time to give her 'the look' a young man named Connor said, "Dodge is rockin' a kilt!"
By the end of the day more than 100 students were taking pictures with me, touching the fabric and asking questions like:
"Do you play any Scottish instruments?"
"Does that thing come with a slip for women?"
"I'm surprised they make them in your size"
"Did you get a free bowl of soup with that?" (love that one)
"What other colors do you have?"
"Does that mean you're gay?"
"Is it Lent or something?
"I think Irish people are cool!"
The obvious question, in which I replied "Of course I am, because I am your teacher and this is a school."
I found out that many of them had Flogging Molly's, The Pogues, Dropkick Murphy's and others on their iPods and wanted to share their musical taste with me.
But my favorite question of the day was,
"Why don't more men wear kilts? I think that is cool!"
This from a 16 year-old lass who is one of the nicest kids in our vocal group.
Thanks for letting me share today's ray of hope that our kids are pretty good in general.
