For most of us that are of a somewhat standard shape and size, off the shelf garments are OK. Not as good as a tailored garment, but adequate. Here is where some will disagree, but I think this includes an off the shelf kilt as well; not as good, but adequate.
Thanks, Farlander. I had the image in my mind of my stepfather and me trying to wear the same kilt. We have the same waist but Dad is one of those poor unfortunates who have bird legs and no backside. I, on the other hand, inherited my mother's genes for a relatively muscular lower half. A kilt built for me would hang hideously on Dad and one made for him would be entirely too tight on me. Something in the middle (what I presume you'd get with an off the rack kilt) would probably work OK for him but still be fairly restrictive for me.
Perhaps I will end up trying "off the rack" before I can afford to have a kilt made for me, but I have no expectations of even a reasonable fit. If I were slender it might work better, but....
Regards,
Brian

I ordered two kilts from them for my children. The kilts for children were much cheaper than many other stores and the price didn't change when I requested a tartan they don't normally carry. My boys enjoy them, they will soon outgrow them so we are not concerned about handsewn tank quality. I will by a child kilt from them again.

Acrylic Burns
Be aware and cautioned the acrylic burns and melts on skin. This has been dealt with in a thread in the past. Perhaps someone can post where to locate it.

Chas,
I am not trying to insult FC by this comment, but as a kiltmaker, I can tell you that there is a BIG difference between a proper made kilt and a FC kilt... The same way there's a difference between OUR Casual / Semi Traditional and a proper 8 yard kilt. The same way there's a difference between a SWK and a proper 8 yard kilt. The same way that SCOTTISH '4-5 yard Casual kilts' are different from their 8 bretheren...
There are a lot of 'internal construction' bits that definitely contribute to how well the kilt is made that are put into more expensive kilts.
Why are they omitted from lower priced kilts? Time. Time = money = a more expensive kilt.

Yes, I did read some of the other posts on the topic. I have an acrylic from SWK and I solemnly promise never to wear it next to a campfire. I understand the criticism but at the same time it is an affordable option for those of us who are not able to afford a tank at the moment. I have a 3 year old and I am planning a wedding...Money is a little tight at the moment. Thank you for your concern and it will be duly noted and considered.

Both my Frugal Corner kilts were on back order, but were delivered well before the stated time and I live in the UK.
I am now moving over to only wearing woollen kilts, but if I was in the market for a quality acrylic kilt I would go back to them.

I've been deliberating about a FC heavyweight also, if only because it's one of the only places I've found that stocks a non-wool Buchanan Modern. My question is, do the pleats hang nice and flat like Rocky's USAKs do? I have a PV kilt from another dealer and the pleats hang in waves. It's not horrible but it doesn't look as crisp and tidy as a USAK does.
