Hear hear!! Hope there is a movement to return curling to kilts. Guess the best we can do for now is attend curling matches kilted and distribute kilt information to curlers...

Who better than this rabble to spearhead the efforts?

it should be noted that paisley isn't in the highlands and therefore chances are that kilted folk wouldn't be playing curling much
there is also some speculation that curling was a danish game brought here by merchant seaman during the 1500-1600s

the oldest curling stone is supposed to be dated 1511 in sitrling again stirling isnt really in the highlands you can see the highlands but then i can see the highlands from the central belt and most stones used came from the local river after countless years of water erosion to smooth the top end which in turn the curlers just flipped over and added some form of handle
i reckon another reason for curling being so big in canada is its cold there lol...scotland doesnt really have proper winters and curling wouldve been one of those games that may not have been played for years at a time

Much of what is good about Scotland came from the Lowlands and that is true of what we now consider my own paternal clan I'm quite sure that many of my ancestors did not look kindly on the kilted or on kilts in general, but the kilt has come to be a expression of Scottishness and also of Celtic heritage in general, at least on this side of the Big Water. That said, it is hard to imagine curlers in general playing kilted; it might be brought about if some of the best pros were to start doing it. I'm sure they just need inspiration

I'm watching the women's gold medal match and at the very start of the game there were some kilted pipers playing. Of course, they had some fool commentator blathering on about something or another, but I caught a glimpse of the kilts over his shoulder in the background.

Canuck--you Canadians also go nuts for lacrosse. I recall lacrosse is THE national sport of Canada. Isn't hockey the national winter sport of Cananda?

Lacrosse is the "official national sport". Hockey and curling are both "unofficial" national sports. Although we do, I believe, have a professional lacrosse league, you be hard pressed to find it televised or locally played. Every small town has a hockey rink and every medium town has a curling club at the least. The depth of talent in both sports is unfathomable. I don't know what was more shocking at the olympics, that GB's (Scotland's) women's curling team not making the medals or Canada's women curling winning silver! Well played Sweden. Tonight it's men's curling Canada vs Norway, guess whom I'm placing the mortgage payment on.

I've curled. Going to a curling club today, in fact. I can say from some of the positions in which I've ended up that kilted curling would be a very bad idea.
