Interesting enough that the old timers care about the titles and the new comers don't.

Good thing I am getting old. I have already forgotten My RANK????
This sure was a long read and I had to go back to the beginning to see what this was all about?
Now I may not be a great Poster but are the titles and ranks taking up that much computer space to make a difference to the Forum?
I am seeing improvement in the look of the forum as far as readability and spacing.
Oh and I had no problem with the rank and title. What ever I are???

Well said all around. The custom titles added a bit of further uniqueness to this motley band of miscreants and ne'er-do-wells

The site seems to be much more efficient and easier to read. BUT IT's BORING! There is no style or individualliy to it.

I suspect that after being around for all of 30 posts (as of this particular posting by you) you may not have a very good feel for the ambience of the place. There are many personalities, and, like a family, it has developed a unique and somewhat complex relationship between its members. Often times, "traditional" things like titles take on importance way beyond the literal. You see, we all know that none of us is really a samarai, but it was part of who we were.
Your direct assault on people you can't possibly know and a site you haven't really experienced for very long is baseless at best. I would counsel long thought prior to going into someone else's home and telling them what's wrong with them. You may not be welcomed with open arms.

Nice Kilt.
Why not both? It's a community, not an FAQ.

I can see how that would be confusing for you.
"Retired moderator" is a title given as a sign of respect and thanks for those who have made contributions to the site by acting as moderators.

well, be this as it all may be....I also mentioned that there is great value here...dont forget to read those bits. I am certainly not here to make waves..just trying to find out if there is truth to the popular consensus. Everything I stated was based on the premise that this is a forum, and not the basement of the Kremlin. I like you all, but I am above parental admonishments.

Curious Thoughts
Was there really a lot of feedback from new members that they felt less appreciated b/c they did not have "cool" titles like "kilted samurai?"
I have been away for a long time, about 4 or 5 years. I'm pleased to see this is still an ornery forum. Thanks for not de-listing me.
I never noticed anyone gaming the rankings by posting a lot of "yes, I agree." or "Hello!"
I, like most of my peers here, am sharp enough to figure out if someone is full of B.S. or makes real contributions to the forum.
It was a lot easier to separate the wheat from the chaff when we had monikers like "kilted samurai" to quickly determine if a poster was worthwhile reading or not.
After a while I/we knew that "kilted samurai" with handle "SUPERKILT" was a fraud, and I passed over his inane postings. (apologies if anyone actually took that as a handle. Rejoin with a better name. Seriously)
My experience is 4+ years old, and may not be relevant. When I went on sabbatical there were less than a thousand members.
I was proud when I earned title "kilted samurai" (was that 100 posts?) and never expected to exceed that. I would look forward to another title, not vainglorious, if I had enough bits of wisdom to share with my peers.
If you look at the commercial models, repeat participation is gleaned through the user's ability to level up. The user is thereby engaged and will continue to participate, if they can level up. But this is not a gaming site.
Random thoughts from a Kilted Prodigal
And you may ask yourself, Well how did I get here?
