Unless I am missing a way how to do this, I still have to hit back button, for example from this post, six times to get back to the new posts.
The other problem with using the back button to get back to the forum is that the thread you were just in isn't marked read. That's why I like to have a link that takes me back to the forum and refreshes along the way, so that it gives me an accurate look at which threads I've already read.

But it looks like the links at the bottom of the page are there again, so all is well.

Oh, cool. I agree that a long thread makes for lots of BACKing up. As to the read/unread status, I'm usually going down the page in order; but sometimes I forget what I've read! There's a keystroke for RELOAD that's pretty well hard-wired in my fingers, too.

I'm one of those auld fogies that hates to move my hands off the keyboard. No doubt you've seen the type.

Scroll to the top of the page and hit the New Posts button. Problem is, if you have been wading through six pages of a post, then you have not been to the forum in a while, so you will probably have to go to page two or three or four of the new posts page, one page at a time.

I like the new clean look. The navigation seems good too but I'm still finding my way around.

So far, I'm not a huge fan and I miss the old look, but I can be slow to adjust to change sometimes... Some issues/thoughts:

    1. The white background makes it a bit blinding/harder (for me anyway) to keep my eyes following the posts. It also has a feel of 'not quite done - with the picture in the banner not going all the way across and white and gray background.)
    2. It loads slower - the banner/top is fast but the post loads a few seconds later. Pretty noticeably slower.
    3. On my work computer the "x-marks partners" scrolls all the way over to the right. My laptop at home - its fine.

I do like how the advertisements are along the side.

A note on a feature that may help people get used to the new forum.

When you are looking through a large thread or you have finished a thread and want to return back to the forum section for the next thread in that section,,,,use the breadcrumbs.

These are two bars. one near the top and one down near the bottom of every page.
They say, for example for this thread, as I am typing this , "X Marks the Scot - A Community of Kiltwarers. > Off Topic > Off Topic , Question and comments about the new look to the forum. . Reply to thread

At any time I can follow my breadcrumbs. If I wish to return to where I was, one step back I can simply click the breadcrumb trail one step backwards and voila, I'm there.

Ali, can you be a bit more specific about what you mean. As I type this I am able to use colors.

    I can use different fonts.

And I can make the letters different sizes.

The smilies seem to work. shock:

On this forum, I tend to use New Posts, and breadcrumbs don't help there. I don't see any way around that, though.

If I've posted this in this thread before, I apologize (there are too many "AH CHANGE!" threads right now), but I'd love to see a "new posts" button at the BOTTOM of the page as well as the top. That's how I browse the forum and, as folks have said, it sometimes requires a lot of scrolling back up and searching for that "new posts" link.
