    Q. re. an odd kilt.

    Hello great and esteemed company!

I saw a kilt for sale recently, and don't know quite what it was.

It was Campbell/Black Watch, very heavy wool, and lovely looking stuff,
but it had no straps and buckles. It Did have a piece of the same material, a long narrow strip about as long as the kilt, that came with it. This had long tapes at one end, each maybe 18 ".

I couldn't tell if the kilt too had tapes at the top, but is seemed properly lined
I gather it was quite old, and the seller had purchased it years ago from the Ayrshire militia.

I am sure someone here will know more about this than me! (greenhorn stage #1!!)
Thanks for any answers on what this was exactly.

    Best,
    Richard.

You obviously don't know us too well. "Great" and "esteemed" are rarely used about us.

Sorry I can't help you with your question.

    Hi Jim!

"Great" was meant as in Volume!...Lots of folks on this forum...
"Esteemed" I still hold with, as some folks here have been of great help!

    Thanks for your reply!

As was said by some bright person at some point in time, a picture is worth a thousand words. Several pictures, several thousands. If you can pop some pics of your area of interest and post them here for those of us among the "great and esteemed" can do our best to help with an explanation. Now that you have us curious.

Former rental, is my guess... those tapes or straps are so it can be adjusted up and down easily to fit many sizes

I'm assuming rental as well, but would very much like to confirm with some pics.

Thank you all for the replies!

It was an e-bay item, but I can see if I still have images saved, and if so try and attach them. (didn't mention it 'til item was sold.)

    NorCalPiper,
What is a drummers plaid like?........sounds like it could be something along that line, as it did have an extra 'bit' and wasn't just a kilt.

I'll go see if I can find pics, and see if the smart kid in the family can post them for me!

    Hi again NorCal,
It seems you were correct,...drummers plaid.
The reason why the buckles and straps were missing I don't have a clue though. No pic unfortunately.

    Thanks again!

    Richard.
