Yeah, I'm torn. Yet after seeing many photos of Scots wearing the lighter shade Balmorals with the ribbons tied, I'm thinking I will go that route. It looks good to me...yet so does them flying freely in the wind! Darn it! LOL!

Or if you have one with the V notch & want to wear it untied, you can also take a needle & thread to it & close the gap
I had an old "Rogers Rangers" bonnet that didn't have much in the way of ribbons (what it did have didn't stay tied very well) & I solved the problem with the needle & thread method.

Just for the record, I tie mine

Thanks mate. I've just ordered a new diced, fawn balmoral, from Robert Mackie, with the ribbons tied.

    Liking the light colored Bonnets

I recently purchased a Mackie bonnet and then purchased a pattern to knit and then felt my own. I am curious how to felt the crown and then knit the dicing as I have recently seen. Very interesting. I wish I had known I had the option of having the back prepared for tying as mine came sewn together.

I also am going to learn how to put a liner in. Do any of the rabble have a wife that is experienced in this?

    TIA
