Hello from British Columbia, Canada
Hello to the rabble!
I have been lurking for a couple of months, finding more information than I would have thought possible! A younger brother is getting married in May, and wishes to have all the men in his party kilted. Being a very casual fellow, his idea is to have us all in kilts, cream hose, Jacobite shirts and sporrans. I thought it would be fun to try making my own sporran, and stumbled upon XMTS and the incredible wealth of knowledge that is the DIY section. I am currently finishing my 2nd and 3rd "Rob Roy" pouch style sporrans, having raided the local thrift stores for inexpensive leather jackets that could be "up-cycled" into something much cooler! Next on my list of things to make will be an x-kilt of some description, as I have been wishing for a Utilikilt or something similar for many years.
My first kilt is in production at the moment - an 8 yd knife pleated tartan in a medium weight. I chose Western Isles tartan from D.C. Dalgleish after a few days of agonizing over the choices. I am related on my mother's side to the Robertson clan, but when it came down to it I liked the Western Isles better than any of the Robertson patterns available. My mother is assembling it for me in the very near future, as she has been kilt making for the local Highland dance school members for about 15 years - far more experience than my total of... none. Come to think of it, she will probably assist me in the creation of my forthcoming x-kilt, as she has been wishing for a reason to make one for a few years, and I will certainly benefit from the help!
I am attaching a picture of my personal rabble, in hopes that I managed to read the instructions regarding posting photos correctly!

My eldest is 12, and she has been involved with Highland dance for 8 years. Daughter #2 will turn 4 in September, and is really looking forward to joining the school too! My older son danced for a year, but found it wasn't his cup of tea - but he still has more kilt-wearing experience than his old man!
Looking forward to much interesting reading still to come,
Steve

Nice rabble you have there.
Welcome from Conyers, Georgia (near Atlanta) in the US. I'm sure you'll like it here.
I've been wearing kilts for over 15 years, but this place has taught me a lot more than I ever knew.

I love that tartan myself and may end up with one some day. Cream hose though. ![Very Happy](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

Yeah, cream hose... I blame the groom! It was the easiest way to make sure everyone matched and had brand new (i.e. clean!) hose. Mine are 100% wool, and I have already made my plans to dye them asap after the wedding! (Thanks again XMTS DIY forums!)
