Don't be alarmed if you hear small popping sounds, that is the fibres coming unshrunk - but they should be small sounds, don't be too hasty, several tugs not one great heave works best.

Rinse out the conditioner in warm water, several rinses will probably be required, so be careful they are at the same temperature or all your stretching will be undone.

Thanks Pleater! I finally made the time to try your advice and so far, so good. The hose are now the same size and I will report back once the unshrunk one has dried

I had a similar problem once with some wool hiking socks, and did pretty much what Anne suggests, but put the other, longer sock in the rinse water as well, so they dried at the same time; the difference afterward was minimal, and disappeared after the next wash.

I tried Pleater's method but was maybe too gentle because once the short hose dried, it shrunk again... so I decided to turn up my effort

    The bigger sock:
    - immersed in hottest tap water and agitated vigorously
    - squeezed out excess water
    - immersed in coldest tap water and agitated vigorously
    - dried by inserting a blow drier on highest heat into the mouth of the hose

    The smaller sock:
    - immersed in warm water
    - squeezed out excess water
    - stretched by hand pulling
    - put a weight in the hose, tied the other end to a bar, allowed to dry for several hours
    - allowed it dry the rest of the way without the weight

The result is that they are the same length again
Unfortunately, they are also a wee bit beat up from such rough handling
