Shame on you, Nighthawk, and your little red caboose.

When I first started wearing my Kilt, I was lucky enough to have input in these matters from allot of good folks in my local Saint Andrew's Society. My wife purchased me a copy of So you are going to wear the kilt, soon after we were married, which brought up the matter and offered suggestions. I have worn my kilt without underwear and with different styles of underwear. If one normally does wear underwear, then I would say you probably will not be any more or less uneasy than if you wore jeans without underwear.
The different standards applied to Kilt wearers has often confused me. Were I out in public in trousers, no one would think it proper to inquire about my choice in under garments, much less to try and move (or remove) my pants in order to find out for themselves. Yet in my kilt, it is taken as a given that I am supposed to advertise publicly such choices, and many women seem to feel it their right or responsibility to check for themselves. I thought of this very issue in the thread about the student wanting to wear a Kilt to his prom, in that he told his principal that he would of course be wearing underwear. I thought that strange, as the boys in tuxes make no such assurances. To me underwear or the lack thereof is a personal matter, not to be discussed or displayed among gentlemen.
The main opponent to my not wearing underwear is my wife, who seems to think that I will make a day of flashing women should I dress like that. I have told her that with or without, I am still me and do not plan on intentional indecent exposure any day, kilted or not. I have a T-Shirt that makes the distinction between Kilt & skirt as being totally dependent on underwear. I would consider that T-Shirt to almost require regimental wear, lest it lead to some embarrassment, after an unwelcome Kilt check. My wife does not agree with me. Guess who wins that argument.

I've been looking for a pair that say "Kiss me! I'm Irish." I think having that on my butt for kilt checks would be hysterical.

Ok, Nighthawk, that's a very cute idea.
Here's what you can do if you don't find any; though surely they have those somewhere. Go buy some nice green boxer's- or what ever you prefer. Take them to a T-shirt shop, and have that print it on the undies in red letters.
