Here are photos of the two military ways of wearing flashes, first with the leading edge at the hosetops' centre line:

and here further back, more in a 10/2 position. The Drum Major is perpetuating the "belled" loops of the former Gordon Highlanders while the Pipe Major is wearing the single-piece striped flashes of the former Queens Own Highlanders pipers:

As bizarre looking as this was to me, in his defense I'll mention that this was taken last August, during a hot, muggy day. *I* didn't have hose on! *I* didn't wear flashes either, though.

I'm SO glad I've joined this group

The discussions are really refreshing; THIS one has really made me think, and I have to say I agree with my new chum on the other side of Foudland Hill. At the side . . .

That picture is absolutely spankin' Now there is a man with sartorial style. Good on ya bloke-with-flashes, it must have been a very hot day. Nice find Galician.

I'm a ten to two bloke meeself; as in, flashes centered at ten and two. I try to get the leading edge of the flash at the twelve o'clock position so that as I approach, folk can say "check out the nice flashes on him" without craning their necks. It's not a military thing, it's not even a civvie thing. It's an English Bloke's thing. It's how I like it although I doubt I'd wear flashes without socks to be fair. Great picture!
