    Yes, P/M Gordon Walker and P/M John D. Burgess both wear red laces in their ghillie brogues, the latter with the addition of silver buckles, which is quite smart. I have seen them worn only for formal occassions, and with that being said, I would advise wearing the red laces strictly for Highland evening attire. The look is indeed very handsome, yet worn correctly with tartan or diced hose would be most ideal-no white, or I would even go so far as to argue, even solid colored hose, to be worn with the red laces. Surely this ideal of mine is based solely upon how Burgess and Walker have worn them, which in my opinion, is the correct and most elegant way. Unsure where you can get them. Note the photo below, and I know there is one of Gordon Walker wearing the red laces, posted somewhere on XMTS.
