I agree. One can purchase silver buckles that come with black leather flaps, tha can be affixed to shoes, or ghillie brogues. However, his don't appear to be done in that kind of style. The commercial buckles with flaps that are sold today, are in my opinion, a bit gaudy-unless you take the buckles off, which are quite smart looking, then attach the buckle somehow-keeping in mind that a leather piece must pass through the buckle in order for it to look correct and for it to somehow adhere to the shoe. I am sure there is an expert with regards to this topic on XMTS. I only have personal experience with buckle brogues, not ghillie brogues.
