SWK Standard.....need help picking tartan
I am contemplating getting a SWK Standard for casual wear, my Ebay kilt is getting that furry look from my sporran, and overall looks just cheap.
The two tartans I have narrowed it down to are the MacLaren and the Leatherneck (OORAH!!)
If any of you own either of these two tartans would you mind posting pics so I can see what they look like in real life, and those who just want to give advice, which would be more versatile, or are they going to be about the same?

I am sorry, but I do not have pics, but the first SWK I purchased was a Leatherneck. I really liked it, but I passed it to a Marine Brother, here on XMarks.
Both of the tartans you are looking at, have great connections. If I had to choose, of course it would be the Leatherneck... but then again, I am not involved in Scouting (I got as high as a Life Scout). Either one you choose, will make a fine addition.

Understand funds may be tight for you now. A worthy goal is to save for your own hand sewn Leatherneck tartan kilt. Worth the scrimping.
I know we're just dealing with monitor images here - but in person the difference between the Leatherneck tartan on a synthetic fabric and on top quality wool leaps out - as does the difference in the construction.
Obviously, one purchases what they can afford at the time. But, I had a goal of a Leatherneck hand sewn and was able to make it happen. Talk about heaven! And, appropriate pride.

I've had a SWK McLaren for a couple of years. I use it primarily for hiking, but it is starting to show it's age re: wear and pilling. I originally got it for Scouting and wore it several times to Woodbadge ceremonies and training. A pretty good product for the price.
Here's one hiking out near Sedona, AZ.
And one at school.

Only advice I have is, if you don't like the fuzzy furry look, don't get a SWK standard- they fur and pill like crazy!

Really? And what kilt would be a good affordable option then?

The Poly Viscose used by SHO and USAkilts claims to be low pill, machine washable, has dozens more tartan options and only costs a comparatively little more than acrylic. That's the way I went. It should be here in just about 6 weeks.

I've had no problems with my SWKs and I beat them up fairly bad. Try a USA PV if you like (I still haven't pulled the trigger on one), it may cost just a few bucks more and take a little while to get to you. Some guys swear by USA--some by SWK. Either way, once you've got it (which ever you choose) post pictures and tell us about it.
