Captain CS Jeffries VC AIF lies here.

War Office, 18th December, 1917
His Majesty the KING has been graciously pleased to approve of the award of the Victoria Cross to the undermentioned Officers, Noncommissioned Officers and Man:—
Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries, late Australian Imperial Force.
For most conspicuous bravery in attack, when his company was held up by enemy machine-gun fire from concrete emplacements. Organising a party, he rushed one emplacement, capturing four machine guns and thirty-five prisoners. He then led his company forward under extremely heavy enemy artillery barrage and enfilade machine-gun fire to the objective.
Later, he again organised a successful attack on a machine-gun emplacement, capturing two machine guns and thirty more prisoners.
This gallant officer was killed during the attack, but it was entirely due to his bravery and initiative that the centre of the attack was not held up for a lengthy period. His example had a most inspiring influence.

Canadians and unknowns.

Missing New Zealanders.

Again, despite the solemnity there was quite a bit of photo bombing going on. This is where the person taking the photograph takes a few moments to line up the picture making sure the focus, light and framing are exctly perfect then just as they are about to click the shutter...

After Tyne Cot we went back to Ieper for chips. You can't say you've been to Belgium unless you ate chips.

View from the chippery (Frituur).

We then headed back to France

and after some jiggery-pokery around a diversion at Dunkirk (Dunkerque) we made it to the Ferry Terminal.

Soon we were on the boat.

And waving bye to the beaches at Calais.

Before long the White Cliffs of Dover hove into view.

All that remained after we docked was the long drive back up North and home.
After one more day, Shane left Manchester Airport for Australia via Heathrow and Singapore. We did have a blast while he was here. My turn to go to Aus next he says. I'll post you the pictures.

Checking in.

Boarding pass at the ready.

See ya mate...
