North West Tasmania needs you.
Hello all my kilted brothers.
I need to call on your help. One of my local radio stations have decided in their wisdom to scrap the ONLY Celtic radio slot for the North West of Tasmania. In doing so they have deprived the people of this area chance to interact with their Celtic heritiage.
I have attached an email below explaining the situation.
If you wish to contact the station please do so and thank you so much for your support.
From: Hodge Graham [mailto:tassiecelt@mac.com]Sent: Thu 29/04/2010 1:49 AMTo: Graham HodgeSubject: the celtic connection needs you.
Hi, if you've not heard..Coast FM is trying to get rid of the Celtic Connection, reason...the great god money, they have sold our time spot to a sponsor (as of yet unnamed) to someone who does not want celtic music. This basically means that tomorrow night will bring as end to ten years of broadcasting, ten years of promoting celtic music and events in NW Tassie. If you feel strongly about this, I invite you to call the station and register your support for a return of the program to the original time slot. This is do or die, a time to vote, so if you want to take action and call the station - ask for for Mark Pannowitz, station manager on 03 64423666 or email music@coastfm.org thanks for your support, feel free to tell friends and get them to call. Thanks everybody. The Thing ![Smile](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
New update: I recieved an email from the station manager and they have decided to save the Celtic connection and extend it by another hour, but it shall be moved to a different slot.
Thank you all for your kind support, I'm so happy.

I'd be only too happy to write them, however, will they care what a yank in the States has to say?
just curious

I guess the more pressure placed on them the better.
It's sad when modernity is more interested in money and greed than culture and heritage. I guess we can see this happening the world over and unless people stand up and shout for what they believe in, then we might as well kiss traditional culture good bye.
Once again I a big thank you for reading this and a bigger thank you if any one emails the station with their views.
The Thing.

Consider it done!
I hope it helps

I'll send them a rev up from this side of the strait Thing. I am getting a bit sick of commercial interests just blowing people off

If they succeed in canning your only celtic music broadcast you can still get a good listen in to the "Thistle & Shamrock" shows on the US National Public Radio broadcasts by going to http://thistleradio.com/. They have streaming video and audio of the last three shows there.
Sorry for your loss.

That's sad and rather short-sighted of the people in charge.
BTW how's the Tasmanian Devil population these days ? They're my favourite animal and as you know, are severely endangered by culling and disease.

Tassie Devils aren't going too well there is a captive breeding programme ongoing at the moment and they have found some Devils on the North West who are resistant to the cancer so they hope they might find a cure for them. I hope they can because they are beautiful anmials.

Dear CoastFM,
While yachting past the north-west coast of Tasmania last week, I was most disappointed to discover your plan to discontinue your celtic cultural programming. I will certainly discontinue my patronage of the area until this situation has been rectified. Not only did I suffer a personal trauma as a result of your unfortunate decision, but the large orange creatures in your area are in pain as well.
Yours truly,
C.O.N.

Do they do podcasts? Otherwise they may well wonder why there should be reaction and complaints from people well outside their possible reception area.
