    WPG Kilt Wool

I sent an email to White Price Glory concerning their kilts asking what type of wool they used for them asking specifically if it was worsted or merino and I just received a reply stating only that it was "a heavyweight fabric identical to the kilts issued to the British Army". Does anybody know what wool it is and how they managed to get 22oz weight?

X, though not a direct answer to your question maybe this will help.

While checking out kilt suppliers a couple of weeks ago, I cant remember which outfit it was, one maker said their kilts were made by the same company who supplies kilts to the British army or a specific Scottish regiment or something like that. When I did a google search to find out what company that was I learned that that contract has been outsourced somewhere out of the UK and that the kilts and the fabric are no longer made in Scotland. There was much understandable outrage by those in the UK about not using UK wool or labor to make such a nationally symbolic item of clothing. I would imagine the vague response you got may have something to do with that situation. A company using language assumed to indicate UK origin when in fact it is made in God only knows where.

I don't own one (yet! I want a Black Watch!!), but I understand the fabric is of the fuzzier saxony variety, as opposed to worsted 'hard' tartan (which is what the MOD is now using in 18 oz. weight).

I don't know where he's getting it woven....

the material is almost like wool blanket material. Great for colder days thats for sure, but I would NEVER find myself wearing regularly.

Well the kilts i believe are coming from the mid east. I have one and it it heavy weight. but it is very comfy even in 80 deg weather. the Slevage edge on my kilt is a bit of a mess. there are parts that are a little freyed and the strap/buckle needs to be replace.

still a good buy and i am glad i have it

Except it actually isn't. When you click to forward yourself to the new page it isn't there any more.

The What Price Glory kilts are well made and heavy weight. They are a great value for the price. However, the extra fabric is not cut out of the fell portion, and so it can be a little bulky in that area.

That having been said, I love my WPG Black Watch kilt. I am a repeat customer, and would recommend WPG. I am a reenactor whose impression is a private in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. My fellow recreated Argylls and I have purchased many items from What Price Glory, including kilts. We have been quite satisfied with the quality and service. The proprietor is a fellow named Jerry Lee, whom I have met at a reenacting event. While no one is perfect, he has a long and a good track record regarding customer service.

Jerry met someone at the same reenacting event who apparently had recently ordered something from--once he heard the name he was able to recite the order from memory and give specifics in terms of order status. I was impressed with his personal involvement. Hope that info helps. Cheers!

    WPG Kilts

I have one of the Gordon kilts and they are indeed good value for the money. I actually prefer this kilt over my other better quality one, sentimental perhaps as it is identical to my first military issue one. McMurdo has one as well, I believe there are pictures of him on their web site.

Jerry is a pleasure to do business with as well! Quality product, quality vendor
