Thanks for the continued input, lads. I actually called up USAK the other afternoon and had the chance to speak with Rocky for a bit. He took the time to explain how he chooses and places the belt loops and we sorted out the bit of alteration I'd like with mine. I'll be shipping mine back down to him this afternoon.

To answer a few other questions, I don't NEED a belt (and therefore the belt loops) to hold up the kilt, it fits wonderfully. But I LIKE wearing a belt with the kilt. Part of it is the visual break it creates between my kilt and my shirt and I'm sure another part of it is just a long habit from always wearing a belt with p@nts. As for the fact that this is a "casual" kilt, to me that word doesn't in anyway mean it's on par with a "budget" off-the-rack kilt I could find on ebay. (Those damn things all have that pesky 24" length so I couldn't wear them anyway) Rocky's kilts are beautifully made and incredibly comfortable to wear. The belt loop issue has everything to do with my own personal compulsions to have things centered and symmetrical. The fact that I can have it easily altered by the kiltmaker has everything to do with USAK's awesome customer service.

I think you tried to answer my question on belt loops and I am sorry that I did not make myself clear. It is not a criticism in any way, but I don't know the style of kilt you are discussing, so what I am asking is this. If some one wanted to wear a belt, with that style of kilt, are the belt loops needed, are they a necessary part of the kilt? As you probably know, many traditional kilts do not have belt loops, even if a belt is worn and I am trying enhance my knowledge, that is all.

If the kilt is worn at the 'low waist', generally the loops would be used to help keep the belt in place. If it's worn at the High Waist (above navel), then the loops COULD be used if wanted, but aren't needed.

Jock... here's a link to our Casual Kilt Page so you can see what they're referring to:

Glad Rocky chimed in. I've never actually tried wearing a belt with a kilt without using the loops. I'd imagine the belt would move out of place.
