Flasks
Hello all. I was thinking of getting a sporran/hip flask and had a couple of questions. Does anyone have any recommendations where they have gotten a good one? Second I notice that there are stainless steel and pewter types out there. Any difference/advantage between the two? Thanks.

Go with stainless steel; pewter "tastes" (no matter what you may be told).

I'm with MoR here, although I won't put anything too nice in my flask (and have gotten a bit of flack for it ), even though it IS stainless. I think any metal has a tinge that it imparts.
A great single malt deserves nice crystal- not metal.

Even with stainless, it seems like I've read some place that you should only leave the spirit in the flask a limited number of hours. Is that true, and if so how long is OK?

I don't know what the official word is (a search of the FDA site said nothing much) Stainless steel does contain Chromium and Nickel. My general rule is one day's festivities and the flask should be empty (or emptied at least once)

Dalvy of Scotland seems to make the best sporran flasks, but check with Ebay and see what they have.

I have a 8oz. round stainless flask with a built in shot cup and hanger. I use a keyring loop on my belt to carry it. See on the right in the photo below.
I got mine at a Celtic fest, But the same item is on this page;

The little cup is handy for sampling other's flasks or offering a lady a dram.
I like the stainless over pewter for flasks and mugs etc., I always think I taste the pewter. Either way I try not to leave the booze in them overnight.
