Kilt friendly pubs in downtown Toronto?

After years away I will be returning to my old stomping grounds next week. I will staying in downtown Toronto for a week while my better half attends a conference. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions of great places to eat (and of course drink) kilted in the downtown area - ie good pubs Looking forward to spending my days walk around the city.

    thanks

Can't advise as to food and drink but I can tell you to stay away from Stratford. There is a devious little man there who apparently makes kilts of octopus leather. How do I know they are octopus? I have been told that once you don one of his kilts, you can't get it off no matter what!

Take care, enjoy and safe journey.

Fionn MacCool's on The Esplanade let my brother play there in his kilt with his old band. Heck the whole band had kilts on, 'cept for Dana. She wore the pants.

He may still play a regular solo gig on Tuesday night at the James Joyce on Bloor St. Nathan Bishop is his stage name. I can't guarantee he'll be kilted if he's even there. He's a great singer. Call ahead. If you catch him say, 'hi', from his brother, X.

    Indeed Mike,

I heard those rumours of the kilted man who has strange powers over cloth and who lives westish of KW and Guelph. I have heard that he also has darkened the door of my fav Langly haunt.

Thanks Xman.. it is now on my list! I see a one man daylight pub crawl happening. Was there not a place that offered a free burger if one wore a kilt?

I often wear my kilt when going "out-on-the-town". I live by the St. Lawrence Market area of Toronto and regularly shop, walk and "tipple" while kilted. I can tell you, however, that the pubs are many, the food plentiful and varied and you may require an extra hole or two in your kilt strap should you have a prolonged stay. Also, check out the Distillery District.
I hope your visit will not conflict with the G20 Conference here in the city. There is a ton of extra security, traffic control and general inconvenience in the downtown area that could limit your ease of getting about and you enjoyment of our city.

Dora's and Allens on the Danforth (Danforth and Broadview, just a bit east of Broadview..) are my two fav pubs.... I sorta doubt anyone would give you a funny eye if you were kilted at either those pubs..

Hmmm.....these types of q's always seem to interest me, personally, it doesn't occur to me where I should or should not go when wearing a kilt, I suppose being 6'5", 245 lbs, I really don't care what comments I get or who likes or doesn't like where or who I run across. I've never felt any sort of trepidation or concern whilst out and about, quite often I pay little attention to what I am doing with kilt on.

I agree with BCTrucker. I really don't care what people say when I go out wearing my kilt.
And as for Toronto pubs and eateries I haven't experienced any negative issues. There is a "Newfie" bar on the Danforth (near Pape) and a couple of Irish pubs (Pat O'Brien's & the Irish Embasy) that are very friendly places.
