Weight loss was my mountain to climb last year (although another 10% gone does sound nice...) and I'm happy to report that I was able to finally lose the last of my "baby weight." Now the challenge is to maintain it. I have no problem with the extremes of life, it's the middle ground that tests me. Also, this year, I'd like to rediscover a few of my muscles that have gone missing

Good luck to you all! It is a worthy goal-- and so fun to buy smaller clothes

BTW--can't you just have your kilts altered? Seems like it would be simple enough...

I've lost 5 lbs since the first post--less beer, more running. Just 15 to go for the % challenge, but shedding 25 more is my goal.

Congrats on your early success. Keep up the good work!
I assume you're trying to exercise 5 hours a week, not 5 hours a day...the idea of the latter makes me tired just thinking about it...

I can usually get 1.5 hours a day...3 days on weights and running, with run-only days between, and a day or two off. Since I started, the waist is getting smaller (slowly) and the chest is getting bigger (also slowly).

It took a couple years to get where I'm at now, hopefully dropping 17# doesn't take another two years .

As I mentioned in another thread I need to lose my tummy. My weight has stayed steady the last 3 or 4 years (240 to 250 lb range), but has grown (mostly in the gut & chest) over the past 15 years, where I was at 225 to 230 lbs (I'm also about 6'3").

I really need to get it down, my doc' tells me I really need to lose at least 20 lbs.

My problem is that I love food! However I've slowly been changing my eating habits (more fresh fruit, veggies, water). The other problem is because of a recurrent 20 yr old rib injury & lower back injury, as well as a recently pulled abdominal muscle (that seemed to be getting better but over the last 2 days has kicked back in), certain exercise (push ups & sit ups for example) is difficult or very painful to do. I'm at a loss, and need to know what I can do?

Of course this will affect future kilt/clothing purchases, however the recent photo thread by Barb T. on moving the buckles has given me hope on recent kilt purchases

Excellent! Keep replacing processed food with veggies, fruit & whole grain.

Concentrate on aerobics, walking at a good pace is a great fat burner.
    Good luck!

Congratulations, folks! Keep at it. It's doable, and keepable.

I had slowly gone from my long-distance-running days at 165 to nearly 220. With a proper diet (less "bad" fat, more fruits and veggies, high fiber) and moderate exercise (about 45 minutes each weekday), I've stayed at 170-175 for more than a year now.

I don't recommend you get started the way I did, however. I got malaria, and lost 20 pounds in seven days. I've been thinking of marketing malaria as a diet plan. "Use only under a doctor's supervision," as they say.

But the malaria did get me on the right track, in my thinking. I wanted to be healthier, and live better and longer.

Again, folks, you can get the weight off, and you can keep it off. Keep going.
