Luke,
You obviously have little time before you are supposed to report for work, but I agree that you should investigate what information a former employer can provide about your employment in Wisconsin. I would also take the time (as recommended in previous posts) to document to the fullest extent the encounter and verbiage used by the "Manager". I think this would prove most useful with the unemployment office and other legal entities if so inclined.
Good luck with everything and I hope you find another job with greater satisfaction soon. Let us know how it all goes.

As is Wisconsin.
I'd ride it out and let them separate you. In this economy, being dropped for 'not keeping sales numbers up' isn't all that awful a resume ding, really.
As for the 'interview in a kilt'-- be careful about that. While it would make you stand out it might do so in a way that makes the interviewer uncomfortable. Making an interviewer uncomfortable isn't always the best way to secure a job.

Where is this bookstore? I seem to have misplaced my copy of Mein Kampf. I feel certain they carry it.

I inadvertantly* did an interview kilted. Did NOT pan out.
Interviews are the one place where I conform to "business casual" at a minimum.
*Was wearing a kilt when I dropped off the app, and the boss asked if I'd interview right then...
