Hi, Shelia, and welcome to XMTS from the bottom end of Africa.
Beaufort is a name familiar to us here in South Africa, since one of our colonial governors, Lord Charles Somerset, was the second son of the Duke of Beaufort.
He named three places after his father – Beaufort West, Fort Beaufort and Port Beaufort – one after his brother, the Marquess of Worcester (the town’s name is Worcester), and two after the family name, Somerset: there is Somerset West, now incorporated into Cape Town, and Somerset East, north of Port Elizabeth, which was (while Lord Charles was still at the Cape) a farm called Somerset. Afterwards it became a town.
Regards,
Mike
