In short, yes, that's how it's done in Canada and the Commonwealth. Only the right marker keeps looking forward.

In my experience, it's a move involving turning the head to the right (or left, as the case may be) and continuing to watch the bloke in front of you out of the corner of your eye so you keep walking straight. There's no blasted way you can actually look at the person being saluted and keep your dressing.
