If you want a jacket that you can dress down, the Braemar is my favourite - it's essentially an Argyll jacket with Prince Charlie style cuffs. It's great for black tie events but can be used as daywear as well (and is traditionally worn with a five-button waistcoat).

Longhuntr, my wife and I are the same way - she's always pointing out that I have more shoes than she does!
