The under-apron pocket may be found on some MoD-issue kilts. It was designed as a place for the squaddie to store his service & pay book, if memory serves me correctly.

I do love my sporrans and would definitely be wearing one but there are times when tuning a band that you need a knife, a tuner, electrical tape and then somewhere to quickly stash them before you go on to the field. I just wondered if these pockets would fit the need as opposed to asking some poor kids mother to follow you and get scared because everyone is getting a little snippy as time runs short. Or even worse, asking the better half to help and owing help in return.

Either way, something to look into maybe
Sounds like you do need pockets

How firmly was your tongue in your cheek when you wrote that, Matt?
When I wore my army kilt, I found that the pouch I wore with it was adequate for most functions (holding my purse, keys, et cetera) but was a dead loss for holding my handkerchief.
Every time I had a damp hankie in the pouch it got a mouldy aroma.
One of the guys in the regiment had a pocket sewn onto the inner apron of his kilt, and ever since then I have wanted a kilt with at least one pocket like that.
He used it to keep a half-jack bottle of whisky, but I would just use it for my hankie.
Overstuffed pockets are something my wife has always complained about when looking at my trousers. At least she ought to appreciate the neater way in which a sporran holds things.
    Regards,
    Mike
