So they've decided to go on the offensive, eh? Correlate this with the increase in bear attacks and you start to think that maybe we're headed into one of those cheesey '70's "nature's revenge" movies...."Night Of The Lepus", anyone?

Just recently saw 'Night Of The Lepus'- must have been on Turner, no? Anyway, I look forward to a 50s or 70s revival when a movie will be made called perhaps 'Night Of The Huge Beaver'. Now that would fill the drive-ins, would it not?

This "guy in the boat attacked by a beaver" thing wouldn't, by any chance, be one of those cartoon-strip illustrated things from a magazine like Outdoor Life, would it? You know those things titled "Quick Thinking Saved My Life" where the guy is minding his own business in the woods when some huge rattlesnake suddenly and with no provocation attacks him and he does some manly thng like jamming his Zippo lighter in the snake's mouth so that he don't get bit?
...I love those things...

I just love Canuck in NI’s response: “Two words: Bottle Opener.”
And next? Are we going to see Beware of the beaver signs?
And will anyone dare to put one up around someone wearing a full mask sporran?
And it looks as though the Chattahoochee tartan will be recommended with one of those full masks.

The lesson I draw from this thread is: "Don't wear your full mask beaver sporran in the woods." Oh the ferocity...
"Before two notes of the theme were played, Colin knew it was Patrick Mor MacCrimmon's 'Lament for the Children'...Sad seven times--ah, Patrick MacCrimmon of the seven dead sons....'It's a hard tune, that', said old Angus. Hard on the piper; hard on them all; hard on the world." Butcher's Broom, by Neil Gunn, 1994 Walker & Co, NY, p. 397-8.

Sure. They'd make a great bottle opener, and I'd never have to dig around in the sporran looking for one.

I am a proud graduate of, among others, Oregon State University, home of the the Beavers. The old mascot was a friendly, smiling beaver wearing what we used to call a "frosh cap" -- a little beanie that probably went out of style before the Vietnam War. Oregon State's were particularly colourful, being a nice loud black and orange. About ten years ago they switched to a more contemporary logo of an angry beaver apparently lunging out of the picture with glaring eyes and bared teeth.
I'm guessing it symbolizes a certain determination to bite things. Apparently that's a virtue in a 21st century university. Anyone wishing more detailed information can consult the oracle at:
