I would take the casual dress tasting to be a perfect opportunity to wear a kilt myself.

If you wear one casually anyway.

They told me to dress casually tonight, so I'm wearing slacks and a shirt.

For the interview I will wear a suit and my Gordon tartan tie. Nothing out-of-the-ordinary, but something to make my connections known. Thanks for the help, gentlemen.
I think your choices are perfect. I would have asked clarification as to exactly what "casual" means in their lexicon, but that's a small matter. You are young, and I am not, so you're probably right on target.

You've had some very good advice here, so I need not beat a dead horse. Just remember that your only job here is getting the job. Clothing, fashion, and personal preferences are all secondary because the company's only ethic here is to make a profit, as Jock to eloquently stated.

We can hardly wait to hear your next report.

Just because you're applying for a position as a Scotch salesman, doesn't mean you should have a few drams before the interview...The same holds true for your attire. Don't wear the kilt to the interview, or any pre-employment function, unless specifically asked to do so. I'm sure there will be an appropriate time and place for you to dazzle you co-workers with your kilt.

As much as I love my kilts, IMHO it would be prudent to refrain from kilting during the interview. In today's paranoid and volatile marketplace, leaderships can be wary of those employees displaying independent thought. A respectful, well-intentioned nod to your ancestry could be interpreted as a sign you would rebel against workplace norms.

Get your foot in the door first, then have fun with it!

Best of luck in your interview!

    Greg,
Wear a suit and tartan tie to the interview. If you're bringing a résumé, include a small picture of yourself kilted with your pipes. Best of luck with the interview; it sounds like a dream job.

Be subtle. Kilts are not subtle. Pipes are definitely not subtle. Personally...I wouldn't even wear a Saltire pin or anything "Scottish"...thistles, lions, etc...of the sort...seems like trying too hard. Worth mentioning if the conversation takes that turn, that you play bagpipes...but I wouldn't even mention casual kilt-wearing in the interview. Remember this community is an exception.

I throw in with Jock Scot, et al, Greg. Wear the suit, but make it clear your outside avocation. They'll likely ask about your interests as part of the interview.
