I came to the conclusion that I aught not be considering Highland attire for black tie; after all, I'm not a Highlander, and can't defend what I wear.
If I had to attend a black tie event, I would come up with a tuxedo.
You could always wear tartan trews, dress jacket and waist coat Ted, that is very smart indeed. If you want to wear the kilt and associated attire then go ahead. I suspect that with all the time that you have spent on this website you will know more about tartan, the kilt and its pitfalls than the average Scot.
