A kilt jacket/Mixing attire?
When I was first bitten by the tartan bug 11 years ago, I was attending the Highland Games for the first time. I orderd my first kilt, and also found a copy of the book, So Your Going To Wear THE Kilt, written by J. Charles Thompson (F.S.T.S.). I took this book home and devoured it. It's a good book for Beginners. On page 62 is an illustration of a kilt jacket derived from the military, and referred to as a day doublet. According to Mr. Thompson, this jacket can converted from an old khaki British battle dress jacket, stripped from all insignia, of course. Now several years ago I found at a yard sell, an old Khaki wool Isenhower jacket that fit pretty well. This jacket is similiar to the old British jacket. I've worn this jacket on several occasions and it looks rather smart with a plain black tie. Now I know how many feel about mixing military with civilian attire. According to Mr. Thompson, this dress is considered perfectly good attire with the kilt. I know that this can open a can of worms, but has anyone else out there worn this attire? Thanks for your input.

With no,NONE, military insignia on the jacket it is, well, just a jacket. Alright it is a military style jacket, but I cannot see any objection to any one wearing it. In the UK in the 1950's/60's most of rural Britain wore ex MOD kit to work with no problem. Many still do----without the insignia. I don't know about the sensitivities in the US and the rest of the world, but I suspect the same goes there too.

It's the same here. In fact, wearing military surplus items is rather fashionable in certain circles. It all depends on how you wear it, though.

Ron - our own Riverkilt - has often sung the praises of the "Ike" jacket and if my memory serves me right, he also has an RAF jacket as well.
