That sounds like an outstanding day! Nothing better than being comfortable and doing something you love for extended periods of time.

The Army does not encourage soldiers to wear their uniforms off-post. It's a direct violation of Operational Security. The only time a soldier is allowed to wear their uniform off post, is if they are travelling on official military business (e.g. from basic training to AIT).

I'm not so sure of that. This is directly from ar 670-1, 3 Feb 2005. I'm amazed they haven't updated this yet. By the way here it where I pulled this from: Click!!

3–3. Occasions for wear
a. Soldiers may wear BDUs on duty when prescribed by the commander. Soldiers may wear BDUs off post unless
prohibited by the commander. They may not wear BDUs for commercial travel, unless authorized by para 1–10c of this
regulation. Personnel may not wear BDUs in establishments that primarily sell alcohol. If the establishment sells
alcohol and food, soldiers may not wear utility uniforms if their activities in the establishment center on drinking
alcohol only.
b. Utility uniforms are not normally considered appropriate for social or official functions off the installation, such
as memorial services and funerals. These uniforms are issued as utility, field, training, or combat uniforms and are not
intended for wear as all-purpose uniforms when other uniforms are more appropriate.

About the Army Band wearing camouflage uniforms, as a civilian I like it.

It really sets military bands apart from civilian bands.

In a recent Rose Parade a military band marched in desert camouflage uniforms and the crowd cheered.

About military personnel wearing uniforms in public, I work at Disneyland and I see it all the time. Military in uniform used to get free admission, I don't know if that's still done.
It's common for people to approach these uniformed military people, shake their hand, and thank them for their service.
Nearly always these military people are wearing the camouflage uniforms. Every now and then one sees a Marine in the green dress pants and khaki dress shirt.

I speak as a military outsider but after 9-11 in downtown Ottawa, Canada (where our central military HQ is located), members of the armed forces were prohibited from wearing their uniforms in public, out of concern they would be victims to unknown crazed whomevers. That policy was lifted after a month or so, but they came back wearing camo, which is more like BDU than dress or semi-dress uniforms, which were more the order of the day before the attacks. Or so it seemed.

The same was done at Ft. Bragg for a short time after 9-11. It didn't last very long at all. In fact I don't remember it even being a post-wide order. I believe that it was a brigade thing for us.

Totally Agree. Been ranting about that for 10 Years.

Ironic, because as far as I know, in the Navy we still arent and never have been allowed to wear our working uniform to travel in. Heck, some commands wont let you get out of the car in them until you get to base. The Marines, I am pretty sure, follow the same practice. Are Army and Airforce allowed to wear cammies out because they are not Dept of Navy?

For whatever reason my wool kilts and my USA Semi-trad kilts seem to hold up the best for all day wear when there is a lot of activity going on.
