    Tulsa/Oklahoma Scottish Games

My son and I took in the Tulsa Scottish Games this weekend. It was our first time to attend. It was not bad, just not as big as the Texas Scottish Festival. Everything's bigger in Texas, isn't it?

    Some pics:
Me in my Cunningham kilt I finished a few months ago. I went mainly to find a sporran and a few other pieces. It was already getting hot by 10 in the morning.

My son in one of my old kilts. This is his first time wearing one. He looks a little disappointed that I hadn't finished his Black Watch casual yet. I did get him a sgian dubh and the both of us clan crest kilt pins.

There weren't that many vendors, maybe ten not counting the food. They apparently let anybody sell their wares, as seen below.
    Just kidding.

There were only two pipe bands that I saw. One was from Arkansas but I'm not sure where in Arkansas. The other one I have no idea where they were based.

Their kilts were all mixed tartans.

    And the other band.

    More pics in a moment.

    More pics from Tulsa

Here's the gathering of the bands.

Here's one attendee sporting a nice kilt.

There was really good herding demo. This dog was very good at keeping the birds in line.

I didn't manage to get any shots of the athletes. By 1 o'clock it was well over 90 degrees. It was hot even under the tents. We only stayed a few hours and then left once we had bought all the gear we needed.

It does seem like a rather small event, with only 2 pipe bands and 10 vendors. But at least you do have a Highland Games to go to! Is it a fairly new thing, perhaps still growing with each passing year?

It's interesting to see Utilikilts with a tent there. I think there's been a UK tent at every Highland Games I've been to. I suppose they are pretty aggressive on the sales/marketing, making sure they hit all the Highland Games, no matter where or when it is. I wish some of the other companies would be that dedicated.

I would bet the pipe band from Arkansas was the Ozark Highlanders, based out of Fayetteville. They and the City of Tulsa Pipes & Drums used to attend Tulsa and the Ft. Smith games on a regular basis.

Nice pics. A friend of mine let me know that she went and really enjoyed herself.
