Hi, Jock – the original song is very familiar – it used to be played often on the radio in South Africa (before the radio service lost all the British character it once had).
What I had in mind was someone recording the version of the song about Jeff.
    Regards,
    Mike

Indeed so. I too was hoping that one of our musically inclined members might be able to put the music and words together and parade it here. HINT HINT!

Great musical homage! Glad to see this story is still getting attention.

OK, so I'm going to ask a question.

Yes, I think that being denied the chance to play golf because you were wearing a kilt is ridiculous. I also think that it makes it ten times stupider because it happened in Scotland. So I agree with your/our overall analysis of the blitheringly stupid response of the Royal Troon caddymaster.

Now the question, and this is a serious, honest question. I am emphatically not trying to poke fun or be a jerk, here.

What did you hope to accomplish by raising such a gigantic riot about the incident?

I mean, the obvious answer is that you'd like to see the Royal Troon change its rules. However, maybe that's NOT the actual answer. I don't know.....

    What say?

    Alan

Who says I was hoping to accomplish anything except for getting Troon to own up to their mistake and amend their rules? And, besides entering a formal complaint to the club, and writing about my experience on a couple of forums where people were interested, and cooperating with a reporter who picked up the story and ran with it, just exactly what did I do that you consider "raising a gigantic riot"? I think you are thinking too hard about the whole issue, Alan. Not everything in the world has to have a designated purpose. Sometimes things just happen because they happen. I think a lot, if not most, of the people on this forum would probably agree with the course of events being entirely appropriate for the situation. I do.

    That say!

    Jeff

.....is a good say! It's just that I think this thread might have the most responses of any thread, ever, on XMarks. The ripple effect, as it were, has gone on to create articles in newspapers all over the globe, which people reference here. I'm not sure if any post/thread on XMarks has ever generated this much activity. And after all, you did make a Facebook group about the event.

I sure understand that what the RT caddymaster did affected your vacation in Scotland, for which you probably shelled out a pile of money. And again, I think the Clubs rules, and the interpretation of them by the caddymaster is/are just monumentally asinine.

If you say that most of this is just kind of how the cookie crumbled, and that you didn't really have any intentions at all, going into it, then OK! It's none of my business anyway, eh?

I was just curious. Carry on!

I do not deny that my postings have started something that seems to have taken on a life of its own (and not always so flattering to me I might add), but that is how the world turns.

And for the record the Facebook page was started by Catherine and Glen who then attached me as the administrator. After it was up it was simply another place to post updates on the events that were ongoing.

Thanks for your interest, support, and concern.

    Jeff

Ah, somehow I missed that...that the FB page was started by Glen and Catherine. as Lily Tomlin used to say on Laugh-in...NEVER MIND!

Also, the Scottish Festival Peeves thread has a lot more responses than this thread does! So I'm off base on two big points.

I would say that it is challenging the status quo that brings about change and progress Alan.
